Over 2,000 patients were removed from GP lists due to allegations of violence or threats in 2017. A further 10,000 were removed due to a break down in the relationship between the GP and the patient, health minister Steve Brine has announced.

Mr Brine was responding to written questions from Justin Madders, MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston. He had asked about the number of patients removed from GP lists on the grounds of violent, threatening or abusive behaviour, leading to an immediate removal, and on removals due to GP-patient relationship breaking down, leading to an 8-day removal.

The figures given by Mr Brine were:

Year Immediate Removals 8 Day Removals
2016 1,252 9,262
2017 2,055 9,869
2018 614 3,445

Data for 2016 includes figures from April to December 2016. “Historical information prior to April 2016 was not collected or held centrally,” said Mr Brine.
