NHS Pensions has updated the GP Locums forms A and B.

The updates have been made “to take into account the change in two of the employee tiered contribution rate ‘band widths’ and the employer contribution rates which changed from 14% to 14.3% from 1 April 2015,” says NHS Business Services Authority.

“Tiered employee contributions for freelance GP Locums are based on their total GP (Practitioner) NHS pensionable earnings in the current year.”

NHSBSA has provided guidance on the GP Locums forms about when the new employer contribution rate is effective. “In summary, the 14% rate applies to work recorded on the March 2015 Locum form B and any earlier forms. The 14.3% rate applies to Locum work recorded on the April 2015 form B onwards,” it says.

“A freelance GP Locum cannot record work performed on or after 1 April 2015 on the March 2015 Locum form B.”

NHS BSA is currently retaining the old-style Locum forms on its website so that GP locums and surgeries can pay contributions at the pre-April 2015 rate.
