A GP unit at the Blairgowrie Community Hospital has officially been opened by Scotland’s Deputy First Minister John Swinney and NHS Tayside chairman Sandy Watson.

The unit incorporates a purpose-built minor injury unit, a day case area and a new rehabilitation facility.

Commenting on the new unit, Mr Swinney said: “This £2.6 million project has transformed healthcare facilities in the local area and the new GP unit is a facility that the local community can rightly be proud of.

“The new GP ward offers the flexibility to care for individual patients, including those requiring palliative care, in the single and twin rooms. These are state-of-the-art facilities, at the forefront of the latest advances in healthcare, and will transform the care patients receive from their NHS.”

Patients have been using the new unit since December 2014. The former GP unit at the hospital will continue to provide outpatient clinics and offers opportunity to extend the range of services accommodated in the hospital and delivered into the community, says the Scottish Government.
