Practice nurse prescribers need to be registered with NHS Prescription Services reminder
June 20 2016
Substantial numbers of nurse prescribers have not registered which practice they are based with, NHS Business Services Authority has said.
Besides impacting on prescribing budgets, being unable to identify which nurse has issued the prescription also impacts on any clinical governance arrangements that rely on prescribing information provided by NHSBSA.
The reminder also says in addition to nurse prescribers needing to register which practice they are at with NHS Prescription Services, the clinical commissioning group’s authorised signatory needs to be notified, so that they can submit an NMP registration form.
“From March 2016 prescriptions, if we're unable to identify the nurse from the prescriber details provided due to the nurse not being registered, we attribute the prescribing to the practice's senior partner/lead prescriber,” said NHSBSA. “NHS Prescription Services are also currently looking into including Additional/Supplementary prescribers in this new process.”
