The documentation for the Golden Hello scheme for GPs has been updated to make eligibility clearer.


A new NHS Circular, PCA(M)(2018) 05, has been issued to replace PCA(M)(2018)03 which was distributed at the end of April. This had an expanded list of remote and rural practices, and removed the requirement for a GP relocating to one of these practices to have never received a Golden Hello before.

The new NHS Circular is accompanied with a new claims form for the Golden Hello and other recruitment grants. This form replaces the annex C of PCA(M)(2003)06. While the form is not obligatory, it is recommended for the mutual benefit of practices and Health Boards.

“It is the intention of the Scottish Government that all performers who commit to working in practices which are eligible for Golden Hellos on grounds of remoteness or rurality should be granted equivalent payments by their Health Boards regardless whether they work in a GMS practice or not. Only those performers in practices with GMS contracts are eligible for the other Golden Hellos,” says the Circular.
