carbocisteine sachetsAugust 24 2015

Intrapharma is launching carbocisteine 750m/10ml sugar-free oral solution sachets in packs containing 15 sachets.

Available from September 1, the mucolytic is indicated for people aged over 15 years with recent respiratory disorders and expectoration difficulties.

“To date, Carbocisteine has only been available in two formats: capsules and bottled liquid,” says Intrapharm.

“A main benefit to using the sachets format is that a patient only requires three sachets a day compared to the traditional six large capsules or nine teaspoons of liquid. For some elderly patients and for those that struggle to swallow capsules, the sachets offer a much more user friendly presentation, as well as ensuring the patient is taking the correct dose.”

Intrapharm also says that the sachet formulation will be “the most cost effective option for the NHS as they are 10% less expensive than capsules and 27% less expensive than the bottle.”
