Generic frovatriptan film-coated tablets are now available.

Teva launched its 2.5 mg strength film-coated tablets in packs of six, on the first day after the patent expired on the originator brand version of the medicine, Migard, made by A Menarini Farmaceutica Internazionale SRL.

Frovatriptan film-coated tablets are indicated for the acute treatment of the headache phase of migraine attacks with or without aura, says Teva. It points out that the charity, Migraine Action, estimates that one in seven people in the UK suffer from migraine and the condition costs the UK over £2 billion each year.

Paul Burden, Director, Generics, at Teva, said: “We’re pleased to be adding this medicine to our range. We hope it makes a positive impact on the lives of patients living with migraine, while also helping reduce the cost of treating this condition, which in turn helps the NHS, patients and payors.”
