Overall funding for pharmacist supplementary and independent prescribing clinics has been renewed for 2018-19 at the same level as previous years.

An NHS circular, PCA (P)(2018) 06, says that the existing arrangements have been rolled forward from April 1. Allocations for NHS Boards provisionally remain at the same levels as in 2017-18, with the total funding allocated at £1 million.

“Each Board must provide by 16 July 2018 their updated plans for funding deployment for the year,” says the NHS circular.

“Should there be any shortfall in Board plans against the provisionally allocated amounts, the surplus may be available for redeployment to other Boards. Boards may therefore nominate in their returns, plans which might be activated if further funding were available as a result of other Boards being unable to utilise their full share.”

NHS Boards also have to submit a report of the year’s activity by March 30 2019. There must also be a review of community pharmacy supplementary and independent prescribing clinics during the year to see if any changes are necessary “to ensure an appropriate and stable funding model”.

Funding allocations for 2018-19 are:

NHS Board  Full year funding (£)
Ayrshire & Arran  75,000
Borders  21,150
Dumfries & Galloway  21,100
Fife  73,900
