Community Pharmacy Scotland is asking pharmacy contractors to encourage patients to complete a survey about the Minor Ailment Service.

Packs containing 10 questionnaires are being posted out to pharmacies this week and should be distributed to patients by June 24.

Responses will be collated for the study Lee Boag, a CPS Funded Research Fellow, is carrying out to explore and demonstrate the national quality and benefit that the MAS provides.

“This evidence is essential for protecting and developing the community pharmacy network’s contribution to the health of the people of Scotland,” said CPS.

“We would greatly appreciate [pharmacists’] support to ensure that the 10 questionnaires included in [the] pack are handed out to patients accessing the Minor Ailment Service so that we can gain the largest national data possible and as far as we can see, will be the largest study of this subject anywhere in the world.”

Participation is straightforward, and CPS is asking pharmacies to complete an online consent form agreeing that they will hand out a pack to the first 10 people receiving a medicine/item on the MAS. Patients are then asked to return their completed questionnaire directly to CPS who will then contact the patient a week later to ask about the perceived effectiveness of treatment provided.
