Two new sets of resources to help newly qualified pharmacists and for pharmacies requiring patient consent have been announced.

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has produced an online ‘Essential Guide’ for “pharmacists who are preparing for their first day of practice in community pharmacy including those who are newly qualified, changing from another sector to community, and those returning to practice after a period of absence.”

It includes guidance and information about practical and professional considerations, advice about signposting to essential resources and how to go about preparing for the first day as a pharmacist in a community pharmacy.

“It aims to help prepare pharmacists for their first day of practice so that they can truly enjoy the experience and focus on demonstrating the knowledge, skills and behaviours they have acquired during their pharmacy degree, pre-registration training year or pharmacy career to date,” said the Society.

New resources from the National Pharmacy Association provides its members with a suite of user consent policy resources.

“Additional and/or innovative pharmacy services are increasingly being carried out by pharmacists and obtaining valid patient consent is an essential process that must be given due consideration. The NPA has therefore published a suite of service user consent policy resources on the NPA website for members to download and use,” it said.

The resources comprise:

  • Service user consent policy (template)
  • Service user consent policy: guidance notes for pharmacists
  • Service user consent policy: patient notice (this can be printed and displayed)
  • Service user consent form: patients with capacity
  • Service user consent form: patients under 16 years of age without capacity.
