The pharmacy regulator is looking for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to volunteer for a pilot study of the proposed new requirements for continuing registration.

Starting from April, the eight month pilot will use volunteers’ feedback to evaluate the impact of the proposed changes to fitness to practise, which move towards a revalidation system, similar to that being introduced for doctors. Volunteers will also be excluded from the General Pharmaceutical Council’s continuing professional record recalls for the next two years.

Under the pilot scheme, volunteers will be asked to:

  • record four CPD entries in a new, simplified recording format;
  • carry out and record a peer discussion;
  • produce a case study of a change to practice that has benefited patients or service users;
  • feed back to the GPhC about their experiences via an independent evaluation.

To register an interest in taking part, the GPhC is asking potential volunteers to complete an online survey.

Pharmacy Voice, the body representing pharmacy owner organisations, is also collecting data on GPhC inspections.

“Pharmacy Voice is collecting data on the grades (‘labels’) awarded to community pharmacies by GPhC inspectors. This data will help to identify whether there are any trends or patterns in grading. The results will be used to inform discussions with the GPhC on standardising inspections,” said the National Pharmacy Association, a member of Pharmacy Voice.

“Pharmacies inspected between 1 July 2015 and 1 March 2016 are requested to complete the anonymous and confidential online survey by Monday 4 April 2016.”
