Pharmacists are being sent a briefing on eye health to help medicines optimisation around eye conditions.

Drawn up by the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the briefing includes advice about patient experiences, ensuring medicines are appropriate, practical steps around checking the patient’s use of medicines, and tips on how to include medicines optimisation questions around eye health in patient consultations.

The briefing also includes two case studies, one involving an older woman receiving new medicines but is having problems reading the patient information leaflet, and a second about an older man using eye drops for glaucoma.

Further information about optimising medication for better eye health is given in a more detailed article, ‘How can you encourage medicines optimisation to improve eye health?’, published alongside the briefing.
