A new project is getting underway to look at how patient information and records made in community pharmacies can be better shared with other healthcare professionals.

The Professional Record Standards Body is working with pharmacy organisations including PSNC, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, as well as NHS Digital and other stakeholders, PSNC has announced. PRSB works to “optimise the health of UK citizens through the definition and widespread adoption of high quality, standardised records.”

The programme will develop a standard on pharmacy information flows so that information sharing is standardised, and the initial focus of the work will be on linking community pharmacy data with GP records. PSNC said: “The information, which will include data on immunisations, medication and other patient related information, will support health and care professionals to make the right decisions about care.”

Community pharmacists wishing to get involved with the project, for example by attending workshops planned later in the year, can contact PSNC’s Community Pharmacy IT Lead, Dan Ah-Thion.

PSNC has also set up a Community Pharmacy Digital email group for people with a Google account. “The email discussion forum is a place for pharmacy staff, and Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC) members to share ideas about digital pharmacy matters using an email address. Views can help inform the Community Pharmacy IT Group’s work with NHS Digital and pharmacy system suppliers,” says PSNC.
