Two news sets of educational material have been published by the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education.

The first is a new type of assessment for the ‘Clinical medication review: a person-centred approach’ e-course.

“Each assessment looks at two patient cases which focus on different therapeutic areas such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and type 2 diabetes. Once you have entered the first case, the patient’s clinical information is presented to you via a medication review form,” said CPPE.

“This helps form the pharmacy professional’s agenda for the medication review. Clinical knowledge around therapeutics and national guidance is assessed using a series of true/false questions.”

Application to practice is then assessed by presenting the patient’s story and asking the pharmacist to balance this with their own agenda and make a judgement on a series of recommendations linked to the patients’ issues, such as blood pressure management.

A new e-learning package on cardiac arrhythmias is also available. This provides an overview of the most common cardiac arrhythmias and how they are identified and diagnosed in practice.

“This will allow you, as pharmacy professionals, to discuss the impact that living with an arrhythmia may have on patients, their families and carers,” said CPPE. “Once you have completed the e-learning programme you will be able to assess the management of atrial fibrillation by reviewing the evidence base and patient perspective, and put together a personal plan to contribute to the care of those living with arrhythmias.”
