PSNC has published a briefing on how to go about offering and giving a flu vaccination. Designed as a poster for display in pharmacy consultation rooms, the briefing takes a step-wise approach in preparing for, administering and recording the vaccination.

PSNC Briefing 046/15 ‘Pharmacy flu vaccination process’ is intended to assist pharmacy staff in providing the national Flu Vaccination Advanced Service, due to start in September. PSNC points out that many pharmacy contractors will already be delivering locally-agreed or private flu vaccination services.

In addition, “to assist with uniformity of patient communications, a social media tag has been agreed: #pharmacyflujabs. Please use this in all promotional tweets aimed at patients,” says PSNC. “For our part, PSNC will be tweeting the about the latest information and resources for community pharmacy teams by using #getreadyforflu in our tweets.”

PSNC has based the advice in the briefing on the advice provided to pharmacy teams in Cumbria by John Urwin, owner of Seaton Pharmacy in Workington and a member of Cumbria LPC.
