Drug Tariff updates include specials and unlicensed medicines price amendments
February 1 2016
The latest list of prices for specials and unlicensed medicines has been published with effect from today.
For England and Wales, the Drug Tariff Part VIIIB It lists 521 prices for 249 items. Three of these are new items and there is one deletion, says Quantum Pharma. There has been no change for the Specials Tariff Part 7S in Scotland.
Quantum Pharma has also posted a list of endorsing tips for specials prescriptions. “To help pharmacists stay compliant and get correctly reimbursed, we have introduced a suite of handy, UK endorsing guides that take pharmacists through each step of the endorsing process for unlicensed medicines and imports (tariff and non-tariff) as well as special obtains,” said Quantum.
Guides for downloading are available for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Further help and advice on correct endorsing practices is available by contacting the Customer Service team on 08000 439 372.
In addition, NHS Business Services Authority has announced that “hydroquinone 4% cream 1g pack size has been incorrectly included in Part VIIIA (as category B) in the Drug Tariff editions for December 2015, January 2016 and February 2016. This product and pack is also correctly listed in Drug Tariff Part VIIIB – ‘Arrangements for payment for specials and imported unlicensed medicines’.
“All prescriptions for this product have been priced correctly in accordance with the Drug Tariff Part VIIIB arrangements for November 2015 and December 2015 and all Part IIIA additional fees have been correctly applied where these items were endorsed.” NHS BSA has also corrected the entry in the NHS dictionary of medicines and devices.
The Specials Laboratory has announced a new later cut off ordering time of 5pm for next day delivery of bespoke specials. The cut off for stocked specials will remain at 6pm.
Sharon Griffiths, managing director at The Specials Laboratory, said: “Our new extended cut-off time enables pharmacies to order bespoke specials that need to be manufactured up to 5pm Monday-Friday. They can do so trusting us that the item will be delivered to their pharmacy the following morning before 12 noon having been manufactured under the strictest of quality systems.”
PSNC has also flagged up a late change to the January Drug Tariff for England and Wales as follows:
- trazadone capsules 50mg - 84s -£32.00
- trazadone capsules 150mg - 28s - £30.00
